General historic city walk

During the general historic city walk all the important historic facts, buildings and persons will be treated. The most important buildings that will be part of this city walk, of course within the available time, are:

House of Orange city walk

The focus in this tour is on William of Orange, the founder of our nation. Another name for him was William the Silent. He lived in Delft from 1572 in the Prinsenhof, the former Saint Agatha convent, and was murdered there in 1584. He was buried then in the New Church and there the tradition started to bury members of the Orange Nassau family there in the vault. Later they became the royal family and still the royal family is burying there death in the New Church in Delft. Important buildings that will be treated:

Vermeer city walk

Johannes Vermeer was one of the most important painters of the 17th century together with Rembrand van Rijn and Frans Hals. Johannes Vermeer was born in Delft and worked all his life in Delft. In a Vermeer city walk we will show you the following places:

House of birth (the house itself is broken down, but you can see very well where the little boy was playing);

Huis Mechelen (the house is broken down but you can see very well in which neighborhood he started to paint);

The houses of the painting "The little street";

Saint Lucas Guild (the front is rebuilt and the Vermeer Centre is there establishes);

House of Maria Thins his mother in law where he lived and worked after his marriage.

Although the buildings are lost it gives a very good impression, where he did grow up and worked. For the people, who have read the book of Tracy Chevalier "Girl with a Pearl Earring", we can show the neighborhood described in the book inclusive the Meat Hall. All his paintings are shown, but unfortunately they are all copies. Delftware city walk

In the 17th century Delftware was developed and is still today world famous. A city walk about this subject has to lead to a factory, where you can see the way it is made and painted by the artists by hand. A visit to De Candelaer is good to combine, because it is in the historic centre. De Candelaer is a small factory and if you like to combine it with a visit to a bigger factory, we can go to the Royal Delft or De Delftse Pauw. This is a good walk, but it can also be done by boat, horse tram or bus.

The city walk is to combine with a guided tour through the museum Lambert van Meerten with a nice collection of Delft Blue tiles.
